SUMMARY:November 2020 Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Location: Online Meeting ID \nShare This presentation is a medium to high level review of the use of steam in heating HVAC applications. Some introduction to steam theory in general will be included. Talking Points: Steam basics – temp-pressure relation\, steam pressure classification and why we use steam. Steam HVAC systems – Boiler types\, why use each type\, steam condensate pump types and applications\, DA tanks. Steam & Cond. Piping – Steam pipe sizing (velocity and pressure drop)\, condensate piping calculating flash steam flow\, back pressure Steam traps – types\, selections (backpressure and safety factors) Lifting Condensate – how to lift condense and not regret it. Randyism’s – rules in steam you make your life easier. Questions. Speaker: Randy Drake\, PE Randy Drake graduated from Oregon State University in 1979 with a degree in mechanical engineering and four years later received his Idaho professional license. He worked in the mechanical Contracting industry for 33 years as an Engineer\, project manager and estimator. During his time as a Contractor he managed many steam system installations such as St. Luke’s central steam plant\, Holy Rosary hospital’s central steam plant in Ontario\, Oregon\, Glanbia’s milk protean plan Richfield\, Idaho steam plant\, Idaho Milk Product’s CIP condensate return system and approximately 18 steam boiler replacements for the Boise Independent School District. In 2013 he transitioned into the Engineering Consulting industry and has been involved in steam system and plant designs for St. Luke’s hospital Nampa\, St. Luke’s 27 th Street hospital Boise and is currently managing mechanical and plumbing installations at the new St. Luke’s downtown Central Utilities Plant. He continues to pursue gaining steam system knowledge and learning “what the dead guys knew”. Tickets $0.00 Member Ticket $0.00 Guest Ticket
